RUN CLUB WORKOUT!!!

Run club practice is not the only time to become a better runner, you can do a lot of exercises at home that help you be a stronger, faster runner. Here are some different drills you (and your family) can do to get into running shape.

Do these exercises on a soccer or football field.

1-  Mid-field intervals - Start at one end of the field jog to the mid line and then sprint (run your fastest) until you get to the other side. Rest for thirty seconds then do it again. Do this 5 times. HINT: If it is your first time doing these, run the sprint part at ALMOST your fastest.

2- Jog the "longs" sprint the "shorts"- Start on one of the corners of the field, stay on the PERIMETER of the field. Jog the sidelines and sprint the end lines. Do 5 laps. HINT: Use the jogging portion to catch you breath for the sprints.

3- Skip, side shuffle, gallop- Start at one end of the field, skip to the mid-line and then jog back to the starting line. Without stopping shuffle to the mid-line and jog back to the start line, then gallop to the mid-line and jog back. Do this twice in a row (6 total). HINT: When you are jogging try to jog the speed that you would do in a run-club race.

  • Always warm up by jogging for 5-10 minutes.
  • Stretch before and after doing any stretch you have learned in P.E or run club.
  • Drink plenty of water even on days you don't run.
  • If you have never run before start SLOW, you will become faster as you do these more.
  • HAVE FUN!!!
